Is anyone else here a Christian dealing with ocd? I could use some support because I've been having a hard time growing close to God ever since my ocd started getting bad. I deal with a lot of religious intrusive thoughts such as being unforgivable, or being cursed or possessed. What's some advice?
I do my best I pray in the morning and at bedtime. I am far from perfect so I make my peace each night. Life is short no matter how young or old a person is . God knows deeply the sincerity deep in each of his creations as to if we are good people or not . God I feel knows people are not perfect physically and emotionally and mentally. I like the 4 steps from the book Brain Lock by Dr Schwartz to help me at times.
@777Q My recent ocd attachment has been with demons and curses and possession. I had seen something about possession online which spooked me and it spun into ocd so I've been dealing with that for the last week or so. It's something that would've have never bothered me but it seems my ocd latched onto it and is making me overthink like crazy about it

I think ocd is like satan it tells me im bad it tells me im evil. Just like Satan does to us before God. GOD says im forgive and my sins are as far as the east is from the west.

@777Q I mainly struggle with real event ocd. So I often feel like what I've done is unforgivable. Which is weird because I do know that Jesus died for every single sin. But for some reason it's just convinced in my head. I'm new to ocd so I don't know if that's common to know something is a lie and still believe it.
I understand. Knowing that there is significant amount of real evil in the world. It is challenging to know how much to offset Satan and his diabolical intrusions and how much is too much with trying to stay with God and the Christian faith and path . I would rather try to be more of a decent person than not decent enough. At the end of day GOD sees everything we do .

Yes, I am a Christian and you are not alone. I too have OCD and live one day at a time.
I am a Christian who deals with Scrupulosity. For years before I started ERP therapy through NOCD I felt like God had higher standards for me than for other people. When it would get really bad I would constantly fear that I had committed the unforgivable sin by blasphemy the Holy Spirit somehow. Two years ago I started with NOCD and I was scared to death. It took some months but I would say I live in 95% recovery right now. I believe that those of us that have OCD need to recognize that our issue is a psychological/medical one and not a spiritual one.

@Viny I struggle with real event ocd and it makes me feel unworthy of Christ's love and forgiveness because of what I've done in the past. I did a lot of really wrong things as a young teenager. I feel like I'm doomed to hell because of what I did
@davinking - so, I don't want to reassure since OCD thrives on reassurance but, why would god doom you to hell? God does not doom anyone, nor he wishes that his children go down to hell, we all make mistakes when we are young (at any point in life really) and god and the holy spirit still would give us many many chances for us to come back, repent and get closer to him again. Since for him all human lives have the same value no matter how much they did wrong, for he loved us so much he gave his only son to we could be saved, so in a sense you are good! OCD does have a way to really make us feel down and unworthy but the catch is, it's all fake. Your mind is trying to convince you of something that is not there.

I too am Christian and deal with ocd. I find so much comfort and devotionals and prayer. Praying for you! I too worry im cursed or that God is mad at me for past mistakes. I def get it
I am also a Christian with OCD and I've struggled with similar thoughts. Those thoughts can be scary. Something that helps me is remind myself of the truth by looking at lists of Bible verses online related to OCD by searching them online and then writing down my favorites in a journal to help in hard times. Also, something that I learned since doing NOCD is that recovery takes time. It might not get better right away or might go up and down, but keep trying! I am praying for you!

I deeply feel you on this brother, I have been struggling for a couple months now with intrusive thoughts and I admit my walk with the Lord has definitely been affected
Is there anyone on here that practices the Christian faith seriously? My faith is my most important part of my life, and ocd seems to affect it the most. It is very hard to discern between genuine faith/ sin concerns and when my OCD goes overboard and my concern is not valid. I feel like I'm always concerned I'll sin, or that some thought is a sin and it's a very difficult cycle to break. If I could associate a compulsion, it's be confessing things. Anyone else struggle in this way and have advice? I'm currently on a wait list for a NOCD provider.
Hi friends, To my fellow christian’s who struggle with OCD. Can you share what you notice to be compulsions for you mentally/physically when it comes to faith? I’m struggling to differentiate what is me and my faith and what is me and the OCD. I don’t have a therapist so just would love some advice. EXAMPLES Iv noticed in myself I think are apart of the OCD: - obsessing over reading the Bible first thing, needing to keep my Bible streak and feeling guilty if I don’t -repeating certain prayers that I think I need to pray to be safe -mentally checking that I still feel connected to God throughout the day
Anyone here struggle with intense, intrusive thoughts and is also a Christian? It’s been so hard to believe that God can forgive me for the thoughts that I have been dealing with specifically related to causing harm to those I love, myself and even total strangers, and as a follower of Jesus I’ve wondered so many times how on earth could I possibly have thoughts like this? It terrifies me
